Description
Calcium chloride is a highly effective de-icing agent that is commonly applied to roads, sidewalks, and driveways during winter.
It works at much lower temperatures than common salt (sodium chloride), making it ideal for colder climates. While regular salt becomes less effective below 20°F (-6°C), calcium chloride can melt ice at temperatures as low as -25°F (-32°C).
While still somewhat corrosive to metals, calcium chloride is generally considered less damaging than sodium chloride (regular salt), especially to concrete, when used in moderation.
